People Pleasing: An Integrative Approach
This three-day course offers a comprehensive exploration of addressing people-pleasing behaviour and low self-esteem, utilising Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) approaches. The course aims to equip participants with a range of therapeutic tools and interventions to effectively support clients dealing with these challenges.

This three-day course provides a comprehensive framework for addressing low self-esteem and people-pleasing behaviours by integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (CFT), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). Participants gain an understanding of cognitive and behavioural patterns influencing self-worth, learn to identify maladaptive beliefs contributing to low self-esteem, and explore interventions such as cognitive restructuring, values-based boundary setting, self compassion and acceptance.

Day 1: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Melanie Fennell's Model of Low Self-Esteem
Identifying cognitive patterns and core beliefs influencing self-esteem
Cognitive restructuring for low self-esteem
Applying cognitive restructuring techniques to challenge negative self-beliefs
Exploring behavioural interventions to address low self-esteem
Homework assignments and practical exercises to reinforce CBT techniques
Developing strategies to enhance self-esteem through behavioural changes
Case studies and role-plays focusing on CBT interventions for low self-esteem
Day 2: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for Low Self-Esteem and Boundary Setting
Overview of ACT principles and their application to self-esteem and people pleasing
The Hexaflex and psychological flexibility
Techniques for working with low self-esteem using ACT, including values clarification, cognitive defusion and acceptance.
Committed action and boundary setting
Understanding the importance of setting healthy boundaries
Techniques for setting and maintaining boundaries in personal and professional life
Exercises focusing on enhancing psychological flexibility in the context of low self-esteem and people pleasing
Day 3: Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and People-Pleasing
Overview of CFT and its three-systems model (threat, drive, soothing)
People pleasing as a function of the threat system
CFT formulation in the context of people pleasing - exploration of the role of shame, self criticism and people pleasing
Techniques and interventions in CFT to address people-pleasing behaviors
Role-plays and case studies focusing on CFT interventions for managing people-pleasing tendencies
Integration and Treatment Planning
Integrating CBT, ACT, and CFT approaches for comprehensive treatment plans
Developing integrative formulations and treatment plans for clients with low self-esteem and people-pleasing tendencies
Putting it together: how you and your service can put into practice what you have learned; identifying and problem solving barriers, planning and implementation going forward.

This course is suitable for mental health professionals (with or without a core training), including counsellors, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and individuals interested in gaining insights into CBT
