FAQ

  • Who are the trainers?

The trainers are all clinical psychologists registered with HCPC or BABCP accredited CBT therapists who have significant experience in clinical and academic settings including the NHS. They often have additional training and therapy accreditations.

  • Can you train my team or a group of people in my organisation?

Yes, we’d be delighted to, this is our specialty. We can offer remote (usually via Zoom), in person training, or a hybrid of both.

  • Do I need to have prior knowledge in the therapy?

No, not at all. Our courses are designed to start with the basics and build up from there. They are ideal for practitioners who do not have a core therapy training, for those returning to work after a break or maternity leave, or wanting a refresher.

  • Who are the people behind Minerva?

Minerva was founded by two clinical psychologists, Dr Rosie Burton and Dr Gemma Ridel. Both Rosie and Gemma deliver training as do our other trainers (clinical psychologists and CBT therapists) who all meet our high standards of training, education, experience and engaging presentation skills.

  • Can you adapt your courses to the needs of our organisation?

Absolutely, we pride ourselves on being able to adapt to your needs. We always include discussions on implementation and if there are particular aspects you would like us to include (e.g. tailoring to a specific client group or making a shorter or longer course) do let us know via the booking form. We will select a trainer with expertise in your client group.

  • We are based outside the UK can you deliver training to us?

Yes, absolutely. We can deliver online, but we are also happy to travel to the location of your choice. Contact us to discuss further.

  • Does the course cost include everything?

Our remote in house courses include all administrative costs and materials. Our in person courses include all travel costs within the United Kingdom, unless excessive costs are likely. These courses do not include costs of the venue, or lunch or refreshments. In addition, if the course is delivered outside the United Kingdom we reserve the right for additional travelling expenses reasonably incurred by the trainer. This will be agreed in advance of confirming your booking, in writing. All training courses are subject to VAT at the standard rate (20%).

  • What do I gain by attending?

You will gain a certificate of attendance (digital or opt in for paper). You will also gain CPD hours in the subject. Our trainers are all HCPC registered clinical psychologists or BABCP accredited CBT therapists with significant experience in clinical and academic settings.

  • Do the courses qualify me to be a therapist?

Our courses provide foundational knowledge and skills for working with people but do not qualify participants to practise as therapists. Consultation with a qualified mental health professional is essential for any clinical practice involving assessment, formulation, diagnosis and treatment.

  • What about your carbon footprint?

Minerva gives significant consideration to the environmental impact of our work. One of our core values is responsibility. Therefore we offer digital handouts as standard, and have an opt in for paper (recycled). Our main delivery method is online, reducing the need for travel for both trainers and delegates. We use the WWF principles of avoid, reduce, substitute and offset. We also use environmentally friendly methods of travel where possible (e.g. train). We regularly assess our practices to identify areas where further improvements can be made.

  • How do you accommodate different learning styles?

Minerva prides itself on its flexible delivery options. Both in-house and online training options include opportunities for discussion, role play and demonstrations from facilitators as well as more didactic teaching methods. We hope this meets the needs of different learning styles. If we know in advance that a delegate has a particular need, for instance handouts needing to be printed on coloured paper, we of course meet this need. All our demonstrations are subtitled and we provide audio descriptions for people with a visual impairment.

  • Can you provide support to delegates who are having issues with the technology during online training?

Unfortunately we are not able to support delegates with any technical issues during the training. We recommend that delegates familiarise themselves with Zoom prior to course commencement and make any updates that are necessary either with computer hardware or software before the start of the course.

  • What is meant by the CPD hours on your course descriptions?

Most professional bodies, like the Royal College of Nursing and most medical Royal Colleges use CPD hours (sometimes called points or credits) to measure continuing professional development. A CPD hour is defined as time spent on 'active learning', relevant to your CPD objectives. A good example of this would be our one-day CPD training course on Behavioural Interventions in CBT. Training starts at 9.30am and ends at 4.00pm, with a half-hour break for lunch, which equates to six CPD hours.

  • What are the start and finish times of your courses?

Each day of training provides 6 CPD hours so as long as those hours are met then we can flexible about the start and finish times. Most people choose 9:30-16:00, with a 30 minute lunch. We also run training courses in different times zones, so whether you are in Asia, The Americas or Europe we can find a time that works.

  • When will webinars become available?

Soon! We are working on it. Please sign up for updates with you email address and we will let you know as soon our courses become available as webinars to buy from the website and watch when is convenient to you.
