This two-day course aims to equip delegates with a comprehensive understanding of CBT for GAD.
Throughout the course, participants will engage in experiential exercises, role-plays, and case discussions to gain hands-on experience in applying CBT for GAD. They will leave with practical skills to integrate cognitive- behavioural interventions seamlessly into their practice, leading to more effective and client-centred treatment outcomes

Day 1
Morning Session
Introduction to generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), definition and prevalence.
Fundamentals of CBT: Understanding the theoretical framework and its relevance in treating GAD.
Afternoon Session
Overview of assessment and formulation of GAD including the cognitive models, understanding worry and intolerance of uncertainty.
Explaining the CBT approach to clients, psychoeducation, setting goals, collaborative agenda setting.
Day Two
Morning Session
Identifying cognitive distortions and the relationship between thoughts, emotions, behaviours and physical sensations. Case examples illustrating the model and intervention.
Afternoon Session
Designing behavioural experiments to test out beliefs.
Relapse prevention strategies: Developing plans to maintain progress and prevent relapse.
Putting it together: how you and your service can put into practice what you have learned; identifying and problem solving barriers, planning and implementation going forward.

This course is suitable for mental health professionals (with or without a core training), including counsellors, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and individuals interested in gaining insights into CBT
Note: This course provides foundational knowledge and skills for working with individuals but does not qualify participants to practice as CBT therapists. Consultation with a qualified mental health professional is essential for any clinical practice involving assessment, formulation, diagnosis or treatment.
