This two-day intensive workshop is designed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills in applying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to Specific Phobia.

This two-day course aims to equip delegates with a comprehensive understanding of Specific Phobias and its treatment through CBT.
Throughout the course, interactive exercises, case studies, role-plays, and discussions will facilitate the learning and practical application of CBT techniques in treating specific phobias. The aim is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply CBT principles in specific phobia treatment.

Day 1
Morning Session
Introduction to CBT. Understanding the theoretical foundations and its application in treating specific phobias.
Overview of specific phobias. Definition, prevalence, and different types of specific phobias.
Conducting assessments for specific phobias. Identifying triggers, severity, avoidance behaviours, and associated cognitive patterns.
Case formulation. Developing individualised treatment plans based on assessment findings.
Afternoon Session
Psychoeducation about specific phobias. Educating clients about the nature of phobias and the cognitive-behavioral model of fear.
Cognitive restructuring. Techniques to challenge irrational thoughts and beliefs related to the specific phobia.
Day 2
Morning Session
Introduction to Exposure Therapy. Gradual exposure techniques to the feared object or situation associated with the specific phobia.
Implementing exposure hierarchies.
Developing coping mechanisms. Teaching adaptive coping strategies and skills to manage anxiety during exposure.
Afternoon Session
Behavioural experiments. Engaging in behavioural tasks to challenge avoidance behaviours and test phobia-related beliefs.
Relapse prevention strategies. Creating plans to sustain progress and prevent relapse.
Putting it together: how you and your service can put into practice what you have learned; identifying and problem solving barriers, planning and implementation going forward.

This course is suitable for mental health professionals (with or without a core training), including counsellors, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists and individuals interested in gaining insights into CBT
